Top 20 Songs on Acoustic Pie Radio, March 2013

April 2, 2013

Some of my favorite San Diego songwriters were voted into the Top 20 this month: Jason Mraz (at no. 3), Gregory Page (no. 4), and Amber Rubarth (no. 6). Gregory Page is a local San Diego treasure. In fact, I’m writing this newsletter today from Lestat’s coffee house where resides the “Gregory Page Stage”. He’s also a super prolific recording artist (I think I own 19 of his albums and I’m probably missing a few!) but that album All Make Believe might just be my favorite ~ sooooo many beautiful songs. You can sample or download it here at Bandcamp.com.

Live365.com, where Acoustic Pie Radio is hosted, gives me geographical stats of which cities and countries are tuning into Acoustic Pie. When I first started streaming Acoustic Pie Radio, the vast majority of listening hours took place in the San Diego area where I’m based. But nowadays the most Acoustic Pie listeners are, in order by listening hours, in: 1) San Francisco, 2) Los Angeles, 3) New York City, 4) Wheeling – Steubenville (Ohio) and 5) Boston. I really need to look up where Wheeling & Steubenville are… but thanks for listening!

56% of Acoustic Pie listeners are in the U.S. and 13% are tuning in from Canada. Next up, in much smaller doses are Spain, Germany, Brazil, the U.K., Israel and Australia. But people also drop in from over 60 other countries including the Czech Republic, United Arab Emirates, Luxembourg, China and Korea, just to name a few.

No matter where you’re listening, thanks for tuning in and for keeping in touch! I love to hear from you.

Top 20 Songs on Acoustic Pie, February 2011

March 2, 2011

The theme for this month, the second month of the year, is two’s.  Two of the artists are songwriters that I fell in love with at the Sisters Folk Festival which takes place every September in Sisters, Oregon:  Jonathan Byrd (at no. 1) and Ellis (no. 4 & 17).  A surprising number of artists appear twice in this month’s Top 20:  Bruce Cockburn (no. 2 & 15), Jackson Browne (no. 4 & 16) and Ellis (no. 5 & 17).  And there are three songwriting duos as well:  Abbie Gardner and Anthony da Costa (no. 6), Storyhill (no. 7) and Chasing June (no. 14).

Gregory Page, San Diego’s resident troubadour, represents our local songwriters at no. 10.

Thanks for voting and for listening to the Pie!

Top 20 Songs on Acoustic Pie, September 2009

October 3, 2009

Hello!

Several favorite San Diego songwriters made the Top 20 list this month.   Sara Petite’s work (at no. 1 this month) is charming and rootsy ~ I’m so glad you all are enjoying her.   If you still haven’t “discovered” San Diego’s troubadour-in-residence Gregory Page, that album (no. 13) is a wonderful place to start.   And Jakob Martin’s “Providence” (no. 15) ~ what a sweet song!   San Diego artists make up less than 10% of the Acoustic Pie rotation so it’s  a testament to the talent this town lays claim to that so many make the Top 20 each month.

Thanks for voting for your favorite songs!  And, as always, thanks for listening!

Top 20 Songs on Acoustic Pie Radio, Oct. 2008

November 3, 2008

I have so~o~o~o many favorite Gregory Page songs that it’s just plain silly to single out one. But, if I did decide to attempt such a silly thing, I might just pick “Bumblebees and Me” (see no. 9). And, I notice that Gregory is the only San Diego artist in the Top 20 this month. Speaking of favorite songs… I believe “Empty Chairs” at no. 11 is probably my favorite Don McLean song of all time. So simple and so beautiful. You can listen to it at his MySpace fan page at www.myspace.com/donmcleanfansite

I suppose we should just get used to seeing Krista Detor on the Top 20 list (no. 7). You all seem to vote her back on most months! Excellent taste! Have you noticed Storyhill in the rotation (no. 19)? They’re an acoustic duo out of Minnesota. I love their work ~ tons of energy and harmonies.

Thanks for voting everybody! Thanks for listening!

Top 20 Songs on Acoustic Pie Radio, August 2008

August 30, 2008

I just love this part of what I do! Getting to see what your favorite songs were each month is always a happy thing. Krista again (at no. 1)! Well, I agree! That album Wilderness Plots is a compilation of Indiana songwriters and it’s a gem. I’ll put in a word here for Michael White who is also featured on the album. You all haven’t taken to his work as much as I have ~ I’ll admit his sound is a little unconventional ~ but give him another listen, ok?

It’s no surprise to see some of the big hitters in the singer/songwriter genre in the Top 20 again: Bill Morrissey at no. 4, Jack Williams at no. 8, Dougie MacLean at no. 12 and David Wilcox at no. 14 & 19. (Um-hm, I linked to David Wilcox’s MySpace page in order to wow you with my appearance in his Top 8. I have absolutely no idea how such a freak occurrence happened but there you go! J ) Folk/pop icon Bob Dylan squeezed onto the list at no. 20 with a classic tune and Dale Marsh, a favorite Second Life artist of mine (aka TallGuy Kidd) was voted in at no. 10 with a beautiful song about planting trees instead of housing developments.

Two of my very favorite San Diego artists are on the list, too! Gregory Page at no. 6 and Carlos Olmeda at no. 15 as well as the adorable and talented San Diego duo The Flimz at no. 11.

Thanks for voting! Thanks for listening!
